For this new and most glorious holiday, we’re giving away our Dungeons & Dragons love song, This Fantasy World, for freeeee!!!

D&D was my introduction to the wild world of tabletop games… and once we found the board games, we could not be stopped. We’ve already played Gloom today, and though it is a busy day, in the background of my head I’ll be playing Lords of Waterdeep and Dixit and Revolution.

Speaking of Gloom… designer of Gloom Keith Baker created a special Tabletop expansion pack for today’s festivities, and he invited us & our friend Molly Lewis to play it with him… in front of a camera crew. It was really fun, and you can watch the result below.

You can pick up the special Tabletop Gloom cards from participating game stores today!

Continuing in the tradition of bringing-awesome-entertainers-to-Portland-to-perform-for-our-favorite-nerds that we started last November with the first NerdNightOut, we have planned a fantastic event for all Portlanders (21+) to take place April 25. And there are too many awesome nerds in Portland, so the show’s happening April 24 as well. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased now!

Here’s the lineup:
Our headliner is the HILARIOUS Joseph Scrimshaw. We first saw Joseph perform at w00tstock San Diego, and then he joined us on our crazy Ladies of Ragnarok tour of the East Coast and Midwest. Everyone in Portland who knows Joseph’s comedy then yelled “WAIT! NO! BRING HIM TO PORTLAND!” and we could not agree more. Joseph is so goddamn funny it is difficult not to just straight-up hate him. And he is PROLIFIC – he writes new shows ALL THE TIME (whereas many comedians rely on the same hour or so of comedy for a year or more…) and I know that he is planning a bunch of new material for this show, so even those who just saw him in February on the JoCoCruise are likely to be surprised. Huzzah!!! We are so happy that our wonderful Portland nerd community is able to support our dreams of flying Joseph out all the way from Minneapolis for #NerdNightOut (We didn’t even need a Kickstarter.. but please BUY TICKETS).

The Doubleclicks will also be playing. I don’t have too much to say about this weird sister duo, but I have heard that they will have just a whole SLEW of new songs to perform, as they will be coming to this show straight from a month of creative incubation in the recording studio.

Our local music opener will be The PDX Broadsides, two ladies and a guitarist with fantastic voices and impressive corsets. The Broadsides have been many things – you may have seen them do a set of bawdy pirate-based songs at another of our shows… but now the ladies have taken to writing their own parodies and original songs on nerdy topics, ranging from Pi Day to Schrodinger’s Cat and, of course, zombies.

The show will also feature local comedy talent: Bri Pruett and Alex Falcone will be mastering the ceremonies on Thursday and Wednesday nights, respectively. We met Bri and Alex when they invited us on their fake live late-night talk show at the Action Adventure Theater, and they both blew our socks off with their clever jokes.

And, speaking of socks…. in addition to our returning sponsor Jupiter Hotel, this event will be supported once again by Sock Dreams, who is giving us some great prizes that will be awarded to the winners of our contest. Last time, we had a coloring contest. This time the contest will be new and different… and we hear the guest judges are out-of-this-world!

Tickets are $8 and can be purchased now from BrownPaperTickets.

FAQ: Will tickets be available at the door? Our last event had a larger seating capacity than both nights of this show combined, so this one may very well sell out. If it doesn’t, we will sell tickets at the door.

FAQ: Which night should I buy tickets for? That is really up to you. The only difference between the two shows is our MC, who will be Alex Falcone on Wednesday and Bri Pruett on Thursday.

FAQ: Who designed your amazing poster? John Harper of One Seven Design made that. isn’t it awesome?

FAQ: Are you going to keep having #NerdNightOuts? Can I perform in/sponsor one? Yes! We’ve put together a website dedicated to the production of these events. Check it out at nerdnightproductions.com.

It’s Pi day, which seems like a good reason to give you a free download of our children’s song “Uncle Geek’s House.”

This is a song I wrote for our Uncle’s big-number-birthday a few years ago. Our Uncle Ed is an awesome, awesome person. He taught Computer Science at a University in Missouri from the days when computer sciences involved punch cards and wizards and cauldrons.

When I was a kid and would visit Uncle Geek (I would stay with him a lot when I would visit my ailing grandparents) he would set up a laptop for me to check my Internets (AOL and neopets 4 life), which often involved stringing ethernet cables around his house in complicated patterns. He made us a mix CD of Weird Al and other parody songs that stayed on my CD to iPod to laptop rotation for years. When I got my first computer, a PC in a Mac household, and proceeded to ruin it with viruses because none of my family had ever needed to protect from things like that, he rescued all my photos. He and I would go to Target and buy bargain DVDs of old comedies. He’d take me to his “nerd gatherings” at the local pizza buffet with all his friends who were professors, IT guys, and wireless-thing-installers. As a very awkward, very lonely kid, seeing happy nerds was a really, really big thing for me.

When we started the band, Uncle Geek (not his real name) was a huge supporter. He ordered one of our t-shirts custom so he could get a pocket T – he, like my grandfather did, wears his pens and notebooks in a pocket protecter in his t-shirt, unapologetically rebelling from the norm.

In our touring life, we’ve met a lot of awesome people who have adopted the “Uncle Geek” role. Not everybody can have nerdy parents (I didn’t)… but having that geeky Uncle to show you the way… the way of Linux and Monty Python and Weird Al… that’s a wonderful part of growing up.

We get asked many many times per tour how one can purchase our rad “Mouses” t-shirts… and we say things like “it is very complicated and capital-intensive” and so on.

Did you turn on the radio last weekend and think you might have heard a familiar ukulele and cello sister-folk duo? Well… you may be right, because we were on Live Wire Radio last week, and we will be again this weekend!

<img class=" wp-image-11140 " alt="The Doubleclicks performing on LiveWire.

Live Wire is a radio variety show, which records in front of a live audience in Portland, Oregon, where we live. They asked us to be “guest writers” for their holiday shows this year, and of course, we accepted. (We’ve played for LiveWire before – we were musical guests on this episode.)

Our song/sketch called “Reply To All” was aired on episode 204, which is a free podcast download. You can’t get that song anywhere else.

And this weekend, you can hear us on episode 205 with another brand-new song – something about fiscal something, I think. :)

The show airs on public radio stations lots of places: in Portland, of course: and Seattle, Pittsburgh, WBEZ Chicago at 2pm, and Austin – there’s a list on their website of broadcast times.

Please leave a comment if you hear us on the radio! And if you heard us for the first time on LiveWire, thanks for checking us out! If you want to hear more, this is a good place to get started!

Happy Almost New Year’s Eve!

Happy Christmas from our parents’ house in Massachusetts! It’s time to get all reflective up in here!

2012. It seems like the year went so fast, and so slow – you know that feeling? Like, you set a bunch of fitness goals and “I should really figure out how dry cleaning works” goals and “I should know how to cook” goals – and then 12 months pass like no time at all…. but at the same time… well, let’s just look at a few things that happened in 2012.

We released an album, a kid’s CD, a 11-track Song Fu challenge thing, a free EP, an EP about pirates, and a EP about Christmas.

We played for the very first time in: Los Angeles, Canada, the midwest…

We played a concert with Amanda Effing Palmer, another with the Rifftrax guys, and another-at w00tstock!-with Adam Savage, Wil Wheaton and LEVAR BURTON!

We wrote the theme song for Cards Against Humanity.

All in a year’s work, right team?

I don’t know how to thank you, and thank the goodness of the divine geeky world, that I’ve gotten through this year with amazing experiences, without too much increasing my negative dollar value as a human, with making more friends – not less – and with still having my sister as my best friend. There’s got to be something going on that I don’t get, because no matter how much work I do, I certainly don’t deserve this much happiness.

But New Year’s is not a time for Impostor Syndrome – it’s a time for cheer! Drinking! And looking forward to next year! And while I have my own New Year’s resolutions – related to fitness, and dry cleaning, and my marketing/event planning projects – this is the time and place to think about…

2013: The Doubleclicks-en-ing.

2013 is going to start out amazing: we’re touring with Molly Lewis for 2 weeks, then we’re going on a cruise. Dutiful stalkers will already know that much. So what’s next?

In March and April we’re going “in to the studio” – a REAL studio this time, with padded walls and a great big board with knobs on it – to work on a new album. I don’t know when that’s going to come out, but we plan to work extremely hard on it and stretch ourselves waaaaay out of our comfort zone. Eep. After that? Cons! Tours! Adventures! A New Web Video Project! A Portland Nerd Evenings Event Series! Friends! Games! Love! Europe! Danger! Novels! Dragons! Hot-air balloon trips around the world! Ok, so I’m not sure, exactly. Most of those things probably won’t happen.

I am hoping for some long road-trip-tours with my sister to places where we’ve never been and some musical collaborations with people we respect (this is so scary to think of, yet so awesome). What will the Doubleclicks look like one year from now? Will we be funnier? Geekier? Will we be all tattooed and have different hairstyles? I don’t know, you guys, we are already so far above and beyond “the plan” that I can only speculate. I do know, though, that I hope to see you there.

We created this monster/masterpiece with Seattle nerd-rock dreamboats Kirby Krackle. It was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard they would be joining us for the Holiday show we did in Seattle a couple of weeks ago. I told Kyle (frontman for KK), he made magic. Then they brought me into their studio to record with their producer (and a Wookie?) – we recorded – and I’m super happy with how it turned out. Do you like?
